Personal exercise - materials and room

I was experimenting with procedural material for floor planks and in result made whole room as I had a chesterfield coach from previous practice, so most of room was almost done. Some fabric, plant, curtains and voilà!

WCC BMX track design stage for C&K Contractors

Finally, revealing work for Clark & Kent Contractors on design assisting, modelling and rendering close to realistic looking images of World Cycling Centre (Mondial du Cyclisme (CMC)) BMX track.

Input data were drawings of starting ramps, site for track and sketch made by Clark & Kent Bridgett with dimensions and combinations of obstacles. My task was also to distribute track layout so that is spread as possible but follow rules in terms of overall length of course. Also I wanted to make turns open as possible to preserve speed. I must say that it was great pleasure to not only work on highly recognizable project, but also sometimes to deal with some issues to solve. Glad that mostly track was built as it looks on images, although there were some ideas implemented after design was made. Result of project seen here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7JqkwTtthKw

Casual staircase

This was entry to a Blenderguru.com Photorealism competition. Gained some new experience in lighting, materials, volumetrics, etc.

Won in a little competition

"Blender Latvia" facebook group organized a contest "Cube". I've decided to combine participation with experiments on new techniques. This was my entry - Luminous and smoky liquid in a container made of glass.
This was 1st competition of the group and only 3 works were submitted. Jury from 3 visual artists decided that my work is best. I was surprised and happy! :)

Learning, learning, learning - Towel! Towel? - Yes!

To refresh knowledge and check what's new in freshest build of Blender 3D, I made towel inspired from Blender Guru tutorial. I added a steam with smoke shaders, played with bronze material and dirt mapping and procedural wood texture simulation for plank. What do You think?

Cumbernauld, Scotland, UK

New, high standard track will be built in Scotland with two starting hills - 5 and 3m, and with pro section on second straight.

Video announcement of the project

Waterpump

Also new stuff learning project. Hard surface modeling, operation with mesh, material setup, texturing material layer masks, compositor.
Yes. Only masking is painted. Everything else in pump material is procedural, without external textures.
Hope You like the result!

Ace Turn Concept for fast tracks

I finaly share my idea of improving Pro level BMX tracks as they have demand for higher and constant speed with less loss of energy/momentum especialy in turns. General idea is to "plunge" lower inside part of turn and start incline and curve course's surface before turn itself. It makes turns more flowing, and less sharp at any posible path. It means - less crashes, less resistance, less unpredictable loss of tire friction. Idea also related with growing speeds, esp. at SX races, where speeds after first turn decrease nocieably and spoils all idea of fast racing.

I'd be very glad if some of track builders could try this idea on next track. Most of all these shapes could work at slightly downhill tracks as it could be easier to provide water drainage form center of turn. Otherwise there must be proper preparatory work done.

Experiment with techniques

Did some experiments with different techniques to both optimize and make result more realistic. I like the result!

Ancient loghouse

Learning new software for my future works I decided to make ancient log-house - dwelling of Semigalians(the tribe in the territory of modern Latvia) in 13th century. Shortly before that I found some related information about history and archaeological researches. And even had conversation with historian - expert of that period and culture. That is what I've got.

Most challenging part was straw roof. Then I experimented also with logs to make them believable as possible

Work for Clark & Kent contractors, guys who prepared BMX track for Olympic games in London. So this track will be built in London too, Burgess park.

Velodrome

Some time ago I've made sketches and some kind of 3d visualizations of possible track inside former railroad depot building. For such activities organisation was established but it ended activities due to lack of support of authorities and enthusiasts. But great achievement is the activity inside cycling federation of Latvia to reanimate track cycling and maybe develop new velodrome in future.

Concept for BMX hall

I was asked to visualize concept design of possible indoor track in Ventspils, Latvia - ASAP. No photo-realism was needed. So I used Google Sketchup. General concept of Arturs Matisons.

Visialization for BMX track in Riga, Latvia

One of my first BMX track visualizations made using only Google Sketchup without render-ers.

And animations...
